Shapley-ames Galaxies in the Blue and Infrared
The Shapley-Ames Catalog of 1276 galaxies with B < 12.5 is compared with the Sanders et al. all sky sample of the 629 galaxies with 60 μm flux density > 5.24 Jy. The fraction of Shapley-Ames galaxies that are visible in the IR is found to increase from 0.006 for E and E/S0 galaxies to 0.384 for Sc galaxies. The subset of Shapley-Ames galaxies that are detected in the IR has a median blue lumino...
متن کاملA radio continuum survey of Shapley-Ames galaxies at λ2.8 cm III. The radio – far infrared correlation
Radio flux densities of Shapley-Ames galaxies at λ2.8 cm from Niklas et al. (1995a, Paper I) and at λ20 cm from Condon (1987, C87) have been used to investigate the radio – far infrared (FIR) correlation at two different radio wavelengths. The correlation between monochromatic radio and the FIR luminosity was found to be non-linear (P2.8cm ∝ L1.09±0.04 FIR and P20cm ∝ L1.23±0.05 FIR ). Galaxies...
متن کاملBlue Compact Dwarf Galaxies with Spitzer: the Infrared/radio Properties
We study the correlation between the radio, mid-infrared, and far-infrared properties for a sample of 28 blue compact dwarf (BCD) and low-metallicity star-forming galaxies observed by Spitzer. We find that these sources extend the same far-infraredYtoYradio correlation typical of star-forming late-type galaxies to lower luminosities. In BCDs, the 24 m (or 22 m) mid-infraredYtoYradio correlation...
متن کاملThe Mid-Infrared Properties of Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies
The unprecedented sensitivity of the Spitzer Space Telescope has enabled us for the first time to detect a large sample of Blue Compact Dwarf galaxies (BCDs), which are intrinsically faint in the infrared. In the present paper we present a summary of our findings which providing essential information on the presence/absence of the Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon features in metal-poor environme...
متن کاملAn Optical and Infrared Analysis of Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies
An understanding of Blue Compact Dwarf galaxies (BCDs) and the processes occurring within their chemically un-evolved environments is fundamental in our understanding of the early universe. This thesis presents an investigation into their physical conditions, kinematics, chemical abundances and dust compositions. An optical integral field spectroscopy investigation of two perturbed BCDs, UM420 ...
